Old Friends become New Friends Wedding!

Friday, July 29, 2011
Well what can I say about this beautiful couple, Sue and Gunther, well actually I could say a lot!

Sue loves chocolate and Gunther is a charming and by all accounts a good dancer!

When Sue first emailed me about her wedding here in Spain we had a few rather strange co-oindences, the first one that she lived in Camberley where I grew up and secondly and even more bizzarly was that her H2B, Gunther, had worked with Anoulka, my assistant, as a dancer years ago so along with our joint love of chocolate and cakes the relationship was off to a head start for this beautiful wedding :)

Sue already had most things planned out and was lucky to have her sister living here so life became much easier planning a wedding abroad, but she wanted a very simple and elegant fresh white and green slightly vintage style wedding.

We used dreamy white hydrangeas mixed with fresh green viburnums and the effect was stunning along with Sue´s beautiful birdcages, hearts, napkins rings and candles it really was a beautiful table design and we loved it.

Sue and Gunther got married at the prettiest church, La Virginia, here in Marbella and had their reception at the Hacienda San Jose.

Our thanks to Talia at Thoroughly Gorgeous for these stunning photos of a beautiful couple and our thanks to Sue and Gunther for contacting us and becoming such good friends and of course reaquainting themselves with old friends, we look forward to seeing you both in September for a cocktail and chocolate :) Fi if you want to replicate the cakes for September we would all be highly delighted!

Sweet Sensations ~ Newnan, GA

It's hard not to instantly fall in love with Sharon Alexander, owner and cake designer of Newnan, Georgia based bake shoppe Sweet Sensations. We certainly did after meeting the adorable cake guru! Her bubbly personality and passion for cake design is infectious and with a background that includes training with some of the top pastry chefs in the world she has become one of the most sought after cake designers in the South. Her work has been featured on Completely Unveiled as well as in the pages of Weddings Unveiled. Read on to learn more about the lovely lady behind Sweet Sensations and don't miss the Sweet Sensations promo video below shot by Anna and Spencer Photography.

Sweet Sensations is based in Newnan, GA. To contact Sweet Sensations, visit their website or call 770.252.9117.

Weddings Unveiled: Tell us a little bit about Sweet Sensations.

Sharon Alexander: Sweet Sensations is a boutique bake shoppe specializing in custom designed cakes. We love the art of the cake.

WU: How did you become a cake designer? When and how did you begin Sweet Sensations?

SA: By default...was trying to learn more techniques for decorating cookies. There weren't any cookie classes, so I took the cake classes. Started in CA, then continued in GA. Had planned to open a cookie shoppe here...

The name and idea actually started in CA for a cookie shoppe I'd planned to open when I moved to GA. Early on I had the great luck to start taking classes with Nicholas Lodge and he was my inspiration for cakes.

WU: Tell us about how you work with engaged couples, whether as a team or individually.

SA: The entire process involves are whole team, but I'm the one who meets with the couples. One meeting is all that is needed for a tasting/design consultation. They're given "homework" to bring so I can get a sense of their style and the reception. The cake needs to be cohesive with the wedding and venue.

WU: Describe your style when it comes to cake design?

SA: Clean, relevant.

WU: What inspires you?

SA: Fabric, fashion, decor...

WU: How do you keep your ideas fresh?

SA: We stay on top of the trends. By custom designing each cake we're pulling from the bride's gown, the invitation, the decor...that keeps it relevant...now.

WU: What makes Sweet Sensations different from other bakeries?

SA: Every cake we create is a custom design made for that particular event.

WU: What would be your dream wedding cake to design?

SA: No particular design...just a couple who completely trust us when we see their vision with a hefty budget in a fabulous venue.

WU: Tell us three things you can't live without.

SA: Sunshine, milk & Twitter! ;p (follow Sharon on Twitter at @SweetSensations)

WU: What is the best advice anyone has ever given you?

SA: You can't run the business from behind the baker's bench/decorator's table.

WU: What is the best advice you can give to an engaged couple?

SA: Always go with your gut...that is God knocking on your head!

Real Wedding ~ Gabi and Capers

Thursday, July 28, 2011
Gabi and Caper's backyard Atlanta wedding was sent to us by Erin Ashford Photography. Designed in a palette of slate, white and shades of yellow ranging from pale buttercup to deep mustard, the inspired palette was perfect for the couple's Fall nuptials. Gabi and Caper's wedding was filled to the brim with handcrafted details created by the bride who is also owner of event planning and design company helloHITCHED. From an old typewriter to mason jars and hanging paper garland Gabi created a unique wedding design mixing Southern touches with vintage elements, including the bridesmaids' fabulous vintage frocks from Stefan's Vintage Clothing. Under an open-air tent trimmed with garden lights, long banquet tables were draped in light gray linens and antique lace overlays paired with striking mandarin yellow chiavari chairs for the outdoor reception. The talented Amy Osaba created a gorgeous display of blooms set in a variety of vintage vessels to decorate each tables center, while individual kraft paper wrapped baguettes sat at each place setting adorned with a vibrant yellow place card. Don't miss a single reception detail, including the couple's two tier yellow confection and incredible pig shaped groom's cake from Highland Bakery. Enjoy!

More Delightful Details of our Flamenco Styled Wedding

Last night we shared this fabulous Flamenco styled wedding with you and here are some more of the wonderful details we created to style this wedding.

The bridal bouquet was actually a last minute order as Anna had wanted a fan but when we arrived with it she changed her mind, we had to be honest expected this so had plan b up our sleeves! Sometimes this does happen if a bride sees something but in reality it does not work. We knew Anna liked stargazer lilies so created a red rose and stargazer bouquet and the bridesmaid was in ivory roses with red alstromeria. Andrew´s buttonhole was a red rose to match Anna´s bouquet.

We created personalised fans decorated with a thin black ribbon and a paper red rose detail, always useful to keep the guests cool at the ceremonies here in Spain and styled the wedding stationery in fan shapes using the black damask detail and red rose theme.

The table seating fan shaped cards were hung in the courtyard and the menu cards were created to match.

The table linens were our black and white damask style linens and worked beautifully with the white chiavari chairs.

The centrepieces were storm lanterns with white candles and red sand and we sprinkled some red rose petals in, the principle table also had a gorgeous floral display surrounding the storm lantern and we finished off the tables using red tealights and spanish ceramic tiles for the table numbers.

We thoroughly enjoyed creating this wedding and are thrilled with the results and would like to congratulate Anna and Andrew on their beautiful wedding day and for allowing us to put our creative hats on!

Our thanks again to Andreas Holm´s for sharing these photographs with us and as I always say without these wonderful suppliers we work with we could never create such fabulous weddings or show them to you :)
