Short & Chic Wedding Dresses

Monday, January 7, 2013

Continuing with our 2013 Wedding Trends predictions, stylish, shorter wedding dresses are making a comeback reflecting the fashions of the past decades from the 20´s flapper styles to the retro knee length fifties and swinging sixties thigh high minis.
Finding the perfect wedding dress is every one of our brides favourite days and when we receive excited emails and texts of photos from our brides twirling like princesses, in dressing rooms having found their dream dress, it is always a very special moment.

I am always excited to see our brides dresses in real life and usually I launch myself into their rooms under a disguise of flowers as they are getting ready and immediately seek out their gorgeous dresses, usually by then tastefully arranged and hung by the photographers.

Our brides always bring a tear to my eye and we have seen some gorgeous to die for dresses from fabulous design houses, Jenny Packham, Pronovias, Temperley, Vera Wang and many more.

One thing I am surprised at, not being a conventional person myself, is that we have yet to witness a shorter style wedding dress and yet they are so chic, stylish and fun.

Shorter styles are so much better suited to our hot climate and I recall one of my brides this year being rooted to the spot at her cocktail hour.

When I dashed over to see her, she explained she could not walk or move that well as her legs had welded together in the heat under her dress!

She did look very hot and I did giggle with her at the dilemma of trying to move with sweaty welded thighs!   After a few cooling cocktails she recovered enough to make it to the reception area :)

So when choosing your wedding dress for your Mediterranean or just hot, gloriously sunny day wedding why not break tradition and keep cool by choosing a funky, retro, chic shorter hemline.  You will be amazed at how much better you will be as well once you hit the dance floor!

A Wonderful Testimonial from our Sex in the City Wedding!

Monday, October 1, 2012
Tonight we are delighted to have received a lovely email from Sarah and Nick who recently tied the knot at the gorgeous Suite Del Mar in Puente Romano.

Sarah wanted a very stylish, glamorous, retro martini theme for her wedding and we cannot wait to share the photos with you of her Sex in the City styled wedding with pink and silver chandeliers, a sea of white and silver candles and our fabulous huge retro style balloons in whites and hot pinks with silver tassels :)

The wedding cake was a masterpiece and exactly like the film!
A real work of art from Debbie at Wedding Cakes in Spain.

Sadly, as always, I did not get to test the cake but holding out hope I will get some cake testing in now that autumn and afternoon tea has arrived again here in Spain!

But for now here is our wonderful email and we will share the photos as soon as we can! :)

We just now need to nag David Toms!

Hi Laura,

Hope you are well and had a good weekend!

Now that we have come back down to earth after our amazing day I wanted to email you to thank you properly.

I cannot express what an incredible job you and your team did, from start to finish it was a joy working with you, you completely understood exactly what we wanted, and created an exceptional venue, feel and ambiance with minimal fuss and maximum effort!!

I also personally appreciated the help and support you gave me, just the little emails and stuff the week before really helped me feel relaxed and comfortable!

I am sure you are inundated with testimonials, but if you ever do want one I would be absolutely delighted to give you one!
Thanks again for all of your help, and please thank your daughter from us as well; she's clearly inherited your warm, friendly and creative nature and was a pleasure to meet!
Hope you have a wonderful winter, we may be in Spain before Christmasand would love to  have a coffee and show you the photos if you're around!
All our best,

Sarah x x

Ice Pops and Cake Shooters!

Sunday, July 24, 2011
Sometimes it is difficult to think outside the box and create new ideas for weddings and parties.

To be perfectly honest I have not had much time over the past few months to do much scanning of latest trends and new, fun novel ideas. Many of the blog posts I have seen are now too samey, albeit pretty just churning over the same fashions over and over again, a big kick is now needed in wedding world to get out of this rut of vintage suitcases, postcards and typewriters!

I personally think Retro is the way forward :)

Having witnessed the seventies revival in fashion with the maxi dresses plus large floppy hats seem to be a big hit this year on the beach as well, let´s bring back the seventies goodies we used to enjoy! I was thinking today that ice pops now would be a big hit at weddings, given we are now spending everyday (sorry!) in plus 30 degrees. Obviously more sophisticated grown up versions could be created and whilst googling this idea I came across this cool idea of Cake Shooters at Sprinkles. What a brilliant idea and the next step up from a cupcake perhaps?!

What do you think? Having googled this idea it appears they are not easy to make and I have seen some disasters, but get this right and it would be really fun for a wedding!
